The day I lost control. Literally; I lost the CTRL key on the computer. Actually, I didn't lose it, my little brother did.
I collect art and craft supplies, also known as 'junk'. I get it from my dad who's taught art as long as I can remember. My family is also garage sale junkies. My Grandpa started that tradition. He never misses one, and is always there early. Putting two and two together, it's in my blood to collect junk, then turn into something awesome! I had recently gotten an almost free computer keyboard. Though I was looking for a typewriter, I settled for a more modern version. I was working on pulling all the keys off so I could work on creating some jewelry from them. Geeky, I know. While I was doing that, my little brother went to our computer and popped a few keys off so he could play with them. A little later, he came to me in panic. As I assessed the issue, I realized he had lost one of the keys he had removed. Ultimately, after a little searching, we found it and placed it back where it belonged. I had to laugh though as the key he lost was CONTROL.

I could write page after page of people I have known that have turned away from the Lord and are running from Him. If you have been in church very long, I'm sure you can as well. It is nothing new. They seem like strong Christians, serving Him, involved in the church, then almost overnight, they throw it all away. The question that continually stayed in my mind was HOW? How did that happen? How did they get from one point to the other? How can I keep myself from doing the same thing?
Those questions laid hard on my heart one night as I read these verses; Zephaniah 3.1 & 2. What is normal?
Normal: Conformance to an average; Expected patterns of behavior; Conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern. Society today says rebellion is just part of the “teen experience”. Physical relationships are normal; “everybody does it”. Wearing... well, nothing ... it’s normal. Laziness, irresponsibility, dis-respectfulness, immaturity... it’s expected from a teen. It’s all normal. Or is it? For the past seven-ish years, I have tried to make it a habit to spend the time of changing to the new year in prayer and Bible reading. Then, for the past three years, I have chosen a chapter, either before or during that time, which would be my chapter for the year. 2011, it was Psalms 1. 2012, it was 2 Corinthians 4. This year, I couldn't choose... I have been studying 2 Timothy and Colossians 3. I haven't studied them as in depth as I would like to. Hopefully sometime soon, but God has used it in my life.
If you were to ask me what my favorite passage of scripture is, my answer would change each time. I have so many favorites. The same as songs, it varies every time, depending on my mood. However, I do have a few that have stayed with me. One of my favorite portions of scripture is this; |
