Matthew 28.19 - 20 is the portion of scripture in which Jesus gives us what we know as The Great Commission. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Despite growing up in church my entire life, the Great Commission is something I did not fully comprehend until I sat through Personal Evangelism. Hearing it constantly often causes us to disregard what we hear because “we know it and hear it all the time”. I grew up knowing we are commanded to tell others of Christ, and lead souls to Him, however, even though it was nothing new to anyone else, it overwhelmed me with the realization that the Great Commission does not stop there. It continues on to say, baptizing them, and teaching them, or, discipling them. The Great Commission involves all three.
Proverbs 1.1-7
“The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” |
