Y'all know the saying,"between a rock and a hard place". I'm sure you've had your times you have felt like you've been in that position. Many ideas come from that saying, and I am a visual person, so I will cater to those such as I. Typically, when thinking of being "between a rock and a hard place", most think horizontally. Someone who can't move, or is being squeezed between two uncomfortable places. However, the concept could also be applied vertically. I see someone being crushed between a rock and a hard place. Anyone ever watch Despicable Me? Remember the bank scene? At times you may feel crushed by the weight of issues that come with life. Problems will arise and you may feel that with the added pressure, you can't handle it. You're between a rock and a hard place. You'll face decisions where it seems that either way, you'll be making the wrong choice. You'll face moments where it seems you are simply choosing between the lesser of two evils. Or, when you feel you only have no other choice;no other option. However, have ya ever watched Abel's Field? (Yes, I am making reference to another movie. But, I have good reason to.) There is one scene in the movie which I love. It cut through my heart the first time I watched it. The next time you find yourself between a rock and a hard place, remember this. You ALWAYS have a choice! Always. There's also always ONE right choice, whether you know at the time or not. And, the right choice is almost always the hardest. You may have to ruffle a few feathers, and you're heart may get wounded, but it's worth it. It's worth it to take the hard road out. The easy way isn't the best way. Later on, when the effects, guilt, and consequences come into play, it's made clear that the easy way out wasn't the best. You must rely on Christ to make the right decision - your future depends on it! When you're at rock bottom, you find He's the Rock at the bottom. Between a rock and a hard place isn't so bad when HE is the Rock. It's when you can't go down any farther, that you're the closest to Him. When you've been to desperation and back, and finally cry out to Him, you find He's been there all along. (And, to prove my point that to every situation in life, there is a song to go with it, I have 4 different songs going through my head right now that I could post. :) ) Remove your shoulder from the burden! In my Bible reading recently I read in Psalms a bit. When I read Psalms 81.6, a portion really stuck out to me. "I removed his shoulder from the burden...." Many times, we place burdens upon ourselves; we put ourselves in situations which will bring about a "rock and a hard place" experience. Sometimes, it is unavoidable, and unpreventable. However, many times, it is our fault we find ourselves in difficult circumstances. Our mistrust, self-pity, apathy, fear, wrong choices, rebellion, and pride are just a few things that bring these times about. Stop placing it on your shoulder to begin with! It's extremely difficult to run while weighted down with unnecessary baggage. Why run the race of life while carrying the weight of the world? You don't have to. Remove your shoulder from the burden!
