I take a deep breath as I type this yet again. I've written it 3 time now, and lost them. :-\ Maybe there was a reason in that. Here I go again..........So, what type of traditions do y'all have? Around here it's mainly Christmas movie. I'm talking the old Christmas classics; Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, Nester the long eared donkey.. the good ones. :-) We always know when my mom breaks out Rudolph and the Christmas music is playing that Christmas is well on its way. Well , that our it's just after Thanksgiving. :-) A tradition I am sure to not forget is that of photos. if y'all have known me very long, you should know I am obsessed with photography. My future... ...family better get used to it! We always have a baking day with my older sister where we make candy, cookies, and all sorts of new pinterest recipes. Pinterest.. another one of my favorites.... and biggest time waster! Anyway, there are many traditions I can't wait to do with my kids someday, and others i know y'all do such as drawing names for homemade gifts for Christmas day, Reading the Nativity story Christmas morning, meaningful ornaments, or opening new PJs on Christmas eve to spend the day in the next day. :-)
Now, I like be traditions as much if not more than the next person, but one thing I fear is that the Christmas story is becoming just another tradition. Tradition as it applies here seems to imply necessity or routine; just something we have to do. There nothing "traditional" about the story of Christ's coming. It's anything but. Colossians 2.8, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Don't fall for the world's version of Christmas. Simply because we have heard the story 10,000 times, know it front and back, don't write it off or overlook it; don't allow it to become just another tradition. Instead, this year, let's study it and learn from it. The awesome thing about it is that the same story we have heard hundreds of times before, we can learn and notice things we haven't before. The Bible is alive! The story of Christ's birth is one of the greatest stories... and yet, it's more than just a story. His birth changed our lives forever.
