God made us with the need to eat and drink, and the ability to enjoy the process. Some enjoy it more than others, and it's obvious. I don't have many foods I won't eat. I always want to try everything at least once, and I don't usually turn anything down. I've tried all the sushi, octopus, muscles, squid, all that good stuff, eyes and all. I've eaten just about every plant and grass. (By the way, the worst is the dandelion flower. ) I've even eaten a cricket at a youth rally, and I used to eat Roley-Pollies when I was little. Some have spectated that maybe I'll marry a missionary because I can eat anything. I go on health kicks now and again. Someday, probably after college, I want to go on the 100 day 'diet'. No processed, all natural, and healthy foods. I enjoy foods that are good for me. Whole grain bread is all I like to eat. My favorite ethnics of food would be Oriental, Italian, and good old Southern cooking. I love coffee, bacon, and barbeque. I hate Orange juice, after an unpleasant experience when I was younger. Right now, I am craving apple juice. I love Twizzlers and gummies! The only problem, they're pure sugar! I love homemade bread. I love lasagne. I love homemade ravioli. I love dumplings, and homemade noodles. I love peanut butter (even though I only get it at camp). I love the camp rolls... there's nothing like them. I love soft pretzels. I love angel food cake, and homemade chocolate pudding. I have a love/hate relationship with food. Someone asked me what foods actually make me sick... well....... Here's the abridged list. Sugar, even sugar-substitutes. Foods that are spicy, greasy, or heavy. Broccoli. Celery. Cauliflower. Peppers. Melons. Corn. Beans. Jalapenos. Certain flours. Bananas. Chili's. Anything Mexican. Cheese. Dairy. Lettuce. Cabbage. A lot of types of oils. Carbonated drinks (sugar free, or not). Overly refined and processed food. Citrus. Chocolate (ya, I know). Onions. Garlic. Caffeine. Coffee, yes, even coffee. Most baked goods, which are mostly flour and sweets, including but not limited to, bread, rolls, pancakes, and especially waffles. Certain meats. Should I go on? There are a few foods that are really bad for me to eat, for example, Sloppy Joes. I'm not crazy about them to begin with, but then, they may my stomach cringe. It's a bad choice of food to eat. It's typically heavy, and greasy. Often with veggies such as celery and onion. Hamburger that is not the best... it's processed and typically fatty. The sauce is a bad mix of ingredients for me. It's put on a high processed flour bun. And, don't usually have the best options of sides to go with it. Each food makes me sick in different ways. Some will make me instantly nausea. Some, will cause intense pains. Others will drain me of all energy, cause all of the above, and/or other things. At this point, I have had absolutely no appetite whatsoever. I go through times like this. I have no desire to eat. Anything. I'll eat, but I don't want to. Food and I don't have the best relationship. The Bible mentions food quite often. It's a necessity to life. When there was a physical need of food, the Lord always provided. The children of Israel in the desert, God provided water from a rock, Man-na and quail from heaven. (Numbers 11. 5-9,31) God provided an unending supply of oil and flour for the woman and her son (1 Kings 17.9-15). He provided food and water for Elijah (1 Kings 17.2-4). From the very beginning He provided food for Adam and Eve (Genesis 1.29-30). In the feeding of the thousands with the little boy's lunch (Matthew 14), God provided. We were made to crave; we were made to eat. Even Christ hungered and thirsted. However, all to often we tend to crave the physical food, rather than the kind that will last. The Bible talks of Christ as the "bread of life". (Matthew 6.31 - 35). At the last supper, the bread was symbolic of His body. The craving of our bodies for physical food is a reminder of the longing in our soul for Spiritual food, as referred to in Deuteronomy 8.3, as well as Matthew 4.4, "And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with man-na, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live." Matthew 6.35, "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." We were made to crave. We were made to hunger. We were made to thirst. We were made to eat. The Bread of Life; The Living Water (John 4) is the only that will satisfy. We must regularly eat of the Spiritual food that is being freely offered to us. You can't live off of one meal a week physically or spiritually. You must daily grab all that you can. It's an 'all-you-can-eat buffet' being freely placed in front of you for the taking. Why go through your week hungry when that is there for the taking?! Matthew 6.11 says, "Give us this day our daily bread." Now that said daily bread, not weekly bread. We need His spiritual food daily. We were made to crave - the Bread of Life, that is. Don't starve to death with food all around you! You need that daily time in His Word, and in prayer with Him. You need to be fed through the preaching of the Word. There is no substitute. We could get along distinctly based on similarities in our food preferences!
