I think often we try to figure out what the Lord is doing in our lives, but that is not our job. The Lord has far greater things in mind that we could think of. We can't begin to imagine what the Lord has in mind for our lives, or what His purpose is for the paths we walk, but what we can - and should- do is be faithful. We can leave the "knowing" up to Him and we can do the "trusting." We can leave the "figuring it out" at His feet because He already has a plan. I wish I could share in depth of all the Lord has been doing in our lives. It is SO cool to see things play out in your life and be able to tell your little girl, "God did that for us." To watch as your pulled from comfortability and know that your faith is being stretched. To see pieces of your life meshing so perfectly together in a way that you could never have planned.
I have music going quite often. This song was recently brought back to mind that has had such an impact on my life. I shall not want From the love of my own comfort From the fear of having nothing From a life of worldly passions Deliver me O God From the need to be understood From the need to be accepted From the fear of being lonely Deliver me O God Deliver me O God And I shall not want, I shall not want When I taste Your goodness I shall not want When I taste Your goodness I shall not want From the fear of serving others From the fear of death or trial From the fear of humility Deliver me O God Deliver me O God And I shall not want, I shall not want When I taste Your goodness I shall not want No, I shall not want, I shall not want When I taste Your goodness I shall not want When I taste Your goodness I shall not want This is such a convicting and encouraging song. On the same note, I began to read a book a few days after. Literally finished it in two days. I couldn't have read it at a more appropriate time. Hannah Schmutzler's book, Grow Me Deeply, is a must-read. It would be impossible to summarize or explain the impact it made on me, so I will allow you to read it for yourself. Here are just a few quotes I loved. “Making missions a priority means eliminating other things that are not a priority. It means sacrificing what you may want now for what is right in the long run.” She discussed philosophies to “Live Simply, Give Deeply, and Hold Loosely.” “{Living} with an open hand, open heart mindset.” Her words describing her experiences and the lessons learned on the way to being a missionary to Mongolia gripped my heart. Ah, it will convict your heart, break you, and make you cry. It was as my heart was walking along side, being shaped as well. The pages closed on one more tender to His will in missions, seeing the urgency and tearing apart the layers of possessions, comfort, and fear. What's left was a resolve and refocus of my heart. Resolve to break those chains. Resolve to be purposeful and intentional in my role of missions. To redeem the time for the Gospel. As simple as this is, all I ask for you is to go listen to that song, and read that book. Those two things, along with messages, many experiences, and my personal Bible reading as of late have changed my heart on missions forever. Perhaps it will do the same for you and encourage you to hold loosely to the things of this world because the night cometh quickly.
