This is embarrassing to admit, however, yesterday we watched one of my favorite Disney movies; which is very much a ‘chick flick’: Princess Protection Program. Yes, it’s a ‘little kid’ movie... yes, I like it. It’s so sweet. At the beginning of the movie, a tiny country is attacked, and the queen sends her daughter, their princess, away with the “Princess Protection Program” to be kept safe until she could return. Why this thought occurred to me, I will never know, but I am kind of liking it... I think each of us girls should join the Princess Protection Program. Don’t understand? Keep reading. We, who are God’s children, are princesses (and princes’) ourselves. We are constantly under attack by something that wants to destroy us; he wants to capture us, control us, and take us over. Many princesses have been casualties of this cruel beast, and no longer hold to the royal image or lifestyle. Something’s got to be done for our lives to be different. Our nation is counting on us, and we can’t protect ourselves. This beast is too sly and smooth for us to recognize his attacks until it’s too late. Often, his venom is disguised as sweet. As strong and capable as we may think ourselves to be, or others tell us that we are, we cannot fight alone. We must have help, and we must have protection. Our Father has set up an extensive ‘princess protection program’ to protect us from the attacker, the world, and ourselves. Our Father, the King, promises to always be with us. He fights for us, and is our protection. He is all we need. He’s already won the war with Satan, but that doesn’t mean he won’t still try to attack us. So, we have also been given people to help guide us, to warn us from going the wrong way, and to protect us from wrong. The God-given authority in our lives are there to help us. Parents, Pastors, Teachers, and church members have been placed into our lives, not as ‘killjoy’s’, but for protection. Counsel is one of the best things He has set up for our protection. It’s the last ‘guardrail’ to protect us from ‘going off the deep end’. It protects us from making a big mistake in our choices, because we often think we know what’s best for us, but.... it’s obvious to others' that it’s the wrong choice. Counsel is: Advice or guidance, especially as solicited from a knowledgeable person. Simply, to advise, or get advice. This is important. The Bible has much to say about counsel and the advice of others. -First, you must go to the right advisory. Which means, don’t go to your friends for advice; they know just as little as you do. Go to those who know more than you do; those who have ‘been around’ longer. The authority in your life who are following the Lord are all good candidates. -Second, Listen and do. Don’t ask for counsel with your mind already made up. LISTEN. Ask them for their opinion (which is the Bible’s’ , if you go to the right person), and don’t rule it out. -Next, consider what they said... if it’s in line with the Bible, DO it. Embrace the protection you have been provided with. Don’t push it away or ignore it - it could be fatal. Everything is after the Princess. Read these verses on counsel "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise." "Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established." "Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end." "There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand." "Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war." "For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counselors there is safety." "where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise."
