The name "Jaelynn" by its English definition means: bird of light... not exactly sure what that is supposed to mean... while "Grace" is Latin and in reference to the grace of God. Breaking it down, "Jael" has a Hebrew origin meaning prominent, while "Lynn" means waterfall. Now, prominent waterfall wasn't the feel we were going for when we named her. But this was... We struggled with baby names. One of us would love a name, and the other wouldn't be crazy about it. Because of that, many options were vetoed. In the end we came up with two girl names and one boy name we both loved, and ultimately decided on Jaelynn Grace if it were to be a girl, and Jason Lee for a boy. (No significance with the "J's"). Lo and behold, baby girl Parker it is.
I always wanted to name my little girl after Jael who is my favorite woman in the Bible. The strength and courage displayed from a woman we know little about is pretty incredible. Love her story. My middle name is Anne, which follows back a handful of generations. We didn't want to go with Anne for her name, but loved the idea of incorporating part of my grandma's name. We pulled the end of Marilyn and stuck it to Jael. We loved for her to get to carry part of her name. Maybe she will pick up some of the same traits of generosity, good cooking, selflessness, and femininity my grandma had. About the same time we discovered one of our adopted mom's middle names was Lynn. First, I absolutely loved it and second, we adored her getting to hold a small piece of someone we both love and admire. So it stuck. While Grace, well, sometimes you think of a name and get turned off by it due to others you know who share the same name. Grace had the opposite effect on us. Truly, anyone we could think of with that name only encouraged us to keep it. She truly is God's grace to us. It is only by His grace that we have been gifted this precious life. It is also grace we need to raise her to become the Godly young lady He created her to be, and may her name be an ever-constant reminder of her need for His grace in her life. So sure, it is a name. It's her name. But it is so much more than that.
